Why We Built Merit Mindz
We did not start with a product idea. We started with a question: what is actually making it hard to run a coaching center in India today? We spent time talking directly to coaching center owners in Kolkata and across India to understand their daily struggles.
We also studied the exams themselves — how JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, and NEET UG are structured, the question types, negative marking rules, and what students do in the critical time between submitting and reviewing. The platform reflects everything we learned.
Managing test series manually is exhausting
Most coaching centers were still running mock tests on paper, correcting them by hand, and entering marks into spreadsheets. For a center with 100 students, a single mock test meant hours of manual work — time faculty could have spent teaching.
Student performance data was invisible
Owners could tell you a student's total score, but not whether that student's weakness was Organic Chemistry or Electrochemistry — a distinction that matters enormously when the exam is three months away.
Parents were kept in the dark
Parents spending ₹1–3 lakh per year on coaching wanted more than verbal updates. Most coaching centers had no structured way to share detailed, continuous performance reports with parents.
